Question of the Day [AAPI Heritage Month]; What two personal finance websites were started by Asian Americans?
One is kind of "geeky" and the other might be your destiny.
Answer: NerdWallet was founded by Tim Chen and Credit Karma was founded by Kenneth Lin
Questions:
- What are the skills that you need to start a company?
- Are you familiar with either of these companies? If not, do a Google search and find out what services they offer.
- What personal finance information would you most want to see on a website like NerdWallet or Credit Karma?
Behind the numbers (medium.com):
These are just a few of the household brands [founded by Asian Americans] that we all know and love or use every day in our homes, at our office or on our phones. These are the companies that entertain us (YouTube, Twitch, Snap), help us work (LinkedIn, Zoom), feed us (DoorDash, Caviar, Panda Express), keep us in shape (Peloton, FitBit, MyFitnessPal) and clothe us (Old Navy, Zappos, GOAT). This list does not even include all of the companies in other industries from finance to healthcare that were started by Asian Americans!

About the Author
Tim Ranzetta
Tim's saving habits started at seven when a neighbor with a broken hip gave him a dog walking job. Her recovery, which took almost a year, resulted in Tim getting to know the bank tellers quite well (and accumulating a savings account balance of over $300!). His recent entrepreneurial adventures have included driving a shredding truck, analyzing executive compensation packages for Fortune 500 companies and helping families make better college financing decisions. After volunteering in 2010 to create and teach a personal finance program at Eastside College Prep in East Palo Alto, Tim saw firsthand the impact of an engaging and activity-based curriculum, which inspired him to start a new non-profit, Next Gen Personal Finance.
